The Vine and the Branches
With Judas Iscariot on his way to betray Christ to the Jewish and Roman authorities, and with Jesus Himself about to depart and return to heaven---- Jesus was very concerned that His disciples be encouraged to stand fast, persevere, and remain. With this in mind, in John 15 Jesus presents an extended metaphor featuring the vine and the branches.
